With growing concerns around the amount of disposable plastic waste we consume, it’s time for you to take inventory on how you can help reduce your impact on the environment.
Here’s a list of things you can do to reduce the amount of waste in your day-to-day life…
DON’T BUY WATER IN SINGLE USE PLASTIC BOTTLES
The sad news is that the world produces almost 20,000 single-use plastic bottles every second. By 2021, the number of plastic bottles we produce is expected to increase by 20% to 583.3 billion every year. Make your impact by only using your own reusable drink bottle.
CARRY REUSABLE CUTLERY AND STRAWS
Stop using disposable plastic knives, forks, spoons and straws. There is an amazing selection of reusable cutlery sets that you can carry around with you helping to cut down on single use disposables. Feel good about your daily impact on the environment.
RECYCLE YOUR HOME WASTE CORRECTLY
Being mindful about how you dispose of your household waste is essential to help recycle as much as you can.
To help the environment don’t make these common recycling mistakes
- Don’t use soft plastic bags to bin your paper recyclables.
- Don’t throw any electronic waste into a recycling bin, use an E Waste centre instead.
- Clothing or fabric items are not ok to throw into a recycling bin. Take items to a charity or place in the general waste bin.
- Don’t put polystyrene or foam in your recycle bin this cannot be recycled.
- Avoid adding shredded paper to your recycle bin, the pieces are too small. Add it to your green bin instead.
THINK BEFORE YOU CONSUME
Be inspired by a minimalist lifestyle. Think before your purchase and ask yourself, do I really need this? After the success of mindful cleaning movements like Marie Kondo and her Kon Mari method, mass consumerism is becoming less fashionable. Get organised and clean out your home so you can avoid purchasing things you already have. Re-use glass jars for storage and buy things in bulk to avoid plastic packaging.
